Suggestions for a 'temporary' door to stop the cat getting into the kitchen....
I live in a small two bedroom apt. We have an open plan living room and kitchen.
All was well until last October when we rescued a kitten. Said kitten is now full of beans cat who lives in the living room but has also become partial to moving into the kitchen and jumping on the worktop/sink etc. Needless to say we are not best pleased about this but love our cat and want to keep her.
So we are looking for a way 'block off' the kitchen from the living room. The entrance to the kitchen is an archway, about the width and height of a typical interior door. We don't want to fit a door as it will ruin the open plan look of the room so are trying to source some alternative solutions.
Any ideas? I guess we are open to screens etc. So far it has been very difficult to find anything that fits the bill.
How about a beaded curtain? Cat might not like it hitting against her as she tries to get through. They're not always long enough to reach right to the floor though so you'd probably have to add to the length. You never know cat might decide she likes playing with that far too much to bother trying to get past it ;-)
Thank you and your suggestion. It doesn't sound like you need this door for much more than privacy issues and containing dogs, So I think I might look at a folding screen made of wood that perhaps you could place at the bottom end of the stairs, with one end folded flat to cover the doorway. If you get a heavy enough one, or even get two and fasten them together, and keep a few panels placed so as to keep the whole thing up right, it might work. You could even buy some plywood with a smooth veneer surface for looks, have it cut to an appropriate size, assemble it with hinges, and paint it.
