New Daily Interior Design Inspiration Section

Hi,

I promised you this for a while, we just introduced a new section called "Ideas" in the navigation.

Here you can discover every day the latest 3D designs, photos and mood-boards created. Most recent ones, most popular ones...

It has filters in order to focus your browsing experience on specific rooms (or categories). A great way to discover new great interior inspiring images.

All within a beaufiful and clean page.

More than ever, good categorisation of your content is important. (Like no cat picture categorised as living rooms:) )

We'll create categories for Scenery images, pets and babies so they don't impact negatively the interior design inspiration experience.

Thanks,

Gregory

  • I like it!  Especially the separate tabs for rooms, photos, moodboards.  I think it needs more tweaking, though.  I'd rather see the "ideas" included in the design tools drop-down menu.  Also, I don't think the filter is working correctly, certainly not bringing up the most popular (if based on views).  Also, the little comment icon under the thumbnail is not reflecting accurate numbers.

  • Yes the most popular filter needs correction.

The content is indexed one time per day currently. That's why the count of comments is not up to date.

If you guys have strong appetite for that section, we'll see how we can make it real time!

  • I too would prefer to have it included in the design tools drop down menu.

Whilst I take your point about categorisation Gregory I often use the "other" options.  In terms of style I rarely create in one of the style categories and in terms of room type I often do open plan multi-functional spaces and I do not want to constrain them being filtered by a particular type.   The filters do not include this option.  It would actually be preferable to filter on 'tags' where a room can have multiple tabs.

Unlike starsector I preferred the old format of having all the rooms, photos, moodboards together but being able to filter for them too.  Now we would have to do three separate viewings on the tabs whereas we used to be able to just browse recent items and see any trends or series developing.

  • I think it is a great initiative. It was much more than what I have actually expected, and must say: Cheers to mydeco team J

  • Hi Nonehpets,

The category others is not appearing in the filter menu but 3D rooms categorised as others would appear when there is no filtering.

    We don't exclude that content.

  • Thanks for responding Gregory; I think that decision is a shame - there are so many really excellent designs here that would fit in "Others" - off the top of my head we had the series of Shop Windows, art galleries/museums - without including them on an "others" filter people are potentially missing out on seeing those fabulous ideas.   Whilst MyDeco may prefer to feature standard rooms to tie in more closely to the shopping part of the site - the design ideas in those "other" rooms are just as valid at getting a concept across as if they were in a lounge or a bathroom.

  • Gregory

This has inherited an issue that we have previously highlighted:

I have 'sorted by' "Most recent" (this is how I use this feature most to find out about the designs of community members I haven't previously "met")

I scroll down the page and I see a thumbnail I want to visit

Having looked at the design, commented, liked whatever I wish to return from whence I came to continue browsing

I click the "back" button and I go back not to where I left it but the same position I was at on the unfiltered default "latest popular"

This would be less annoying if it took me back to the top of the default page to reset the 'sort by' quickly but as it is I have to scroll back up, reset the 'sort by' and then remember how many times I had clicked "view more" as I scrolled down to get back where I was.

The coding on the back button is flawed

  • We can always improve that point but honestly the only way to achieve efficient browsing as a user, to date, is to open elements different browser's tab so you never loose where you were in the list.

  • I am sorry Gregory but that is just not true - no other website I use requires me to have several tabs open to keep my place in the list.  As it is I have 21 different URL's open on tabs all the time - but only one tab per URL and I go "back" and "forward" in all of those without this issue happening.

I am not just whingeing for the sake of it - you asked for feedback on renewed features.  This flaw will deter people from looking beyond about the first 30 or 40 inspiration thumbnails, which I am assuming is not the brief that the web programmer had to match?
