Small open plan kitchen/living room layout
Hi
We have recently bought a converted first floor flat in a victorian terrace, and are unsure how to design the smal lopen plan kitchen living room area.
The kitchen needs to be extended as it has not been designed with a washing machine, and the developer has agreed to do this work for us in the same style as the kitchen (which is white with black worktops). In the room we need:
1. Dining area - either dining table or small breakfast bar
2. Relax area with comfy sofa, tv etc
3. Storage space
We have played around with a few ideas, but haven't managed to come up with something that doesn't look too cramped. Some ideas that we think would work:
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for the layout,
do you have the same flooring as that one on your template?
What colors-style do you like most?

Dearest Kathy,
I found on my deco some kitchen units white with granite top, although you used kitchen unit wood color with black top, do you have the wood and black top furniture already in place or it is only an example for us?

The flooring is very similar to the one in the plan. We would prefer a classical modern style with a layout that maximises space. We have been advised that light colours would work best, perhaps with a few patterned or colourful elements or statement pieces. We like this design: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/living_room/tools/livingroom_rooms_ideas/?icid=gb%3Eic%3Eleft_menu%3Eliving_room%3E130x115%3Eroom_ideas#/20123_lirs01a_01
Hope that helps?

Hi Chania
I really like your idea about running the window seating around all of the windows, and I think this leaves the room really open. I think we would prefer to leave the room in white and light coloured furniture with a few more brightly coloured elments and patterns eg pictures, chair.
The kitchen is brand new and contains white units with a black worksurfaces. The sink is located on the right hand wall, close to but perpendicular from the oven. Another option, which we have been working on but were concerned might close off the room was:
Any further thoughts greatly appreciated!
Thanks again

Hi Katy....I used a small dining set and armless chairs to make the space appear larger with soft pastel colors for a calming effect. Enjoy!

Thank you all very much for your design ideas - there are some really good ideas to use the space effectively.
Unfortunately we were gazumped on this flat and were unable to put any of the ideas into practice. However, we have since found another flat, so if anyone would be willing to help us out with another different but equally challenging design, then that would be greatly appreciated!
