Help/tips for designing my bedroom
Hey everyone,
I'm new here but I'm really enjoying browsing through all the wonderful ideas and colors. I'm trying to do something new with my room -- breathe a bit more life into it and would love some ideas or tips! I love the modern/contemporary design. My biggest problem with my bedroom is that it's oddly shaped. My closet (which looks like a wall in the picture) juts out and it leaves spaces that I don't quite know how to fill (though I have been toying with the idea of putting some book cases in there). My bed is along the back wall, I just bought a dark chocolate wood bed but I'm open to other colors for the dressers (white might be nice) and some different accessories. Currently my room is a deep chocolate brown but I was looking to repaint it a nice charcoal grey (though I'm open to any other suggestions!). I included a picture of my room and it's measurements. Thx! :)

Hi,
Thanks for the response! My closet is 4ft in length with 18" of wall on one side and 18.5" on the other. I included a picture to show what I'm talking about. My window is 52" in width and 43.5" in height. The window is positioned almost to the ceiling of my room. The height of my room is 7.5ft. Hope that helps. Thanks again! http://i49.tinypic.com/2n7iddu.jpg -

Dear Ahynes87, I think grey paint or teal grey with the dark wooden furniture will look splendid, instead of chocolate brown, I added some accessories in white and silver and pieces of furniture in white and light wood ike the cube bookshelves on the walls, I also aded some small pictures-paintings to decorate the walls, soon the other view, I put the bed in the wall with the closet next to the door
hope it helps

Hi Carmen, the measurements are different than the way you have them (btw lovely room!), for example the right hand wall is 148 inches which makes it 12 feet 4 inches not 14 feet 9 inches - The room is 15'4" x 12'4" x 7'6" high. This makes the room a lot smaller. Why don't you use my template, it's as close as I could get :)

Hi
I found your template on your profile - for future reference if you want to post a link to that in the forum (instead of the picture version) it is really easy. Open your room, copy the URL (webaddress) in the bar at the top and then simply paste it into your post. When you publish a thumbnail to your room will appear too and people can simply follow that link and then save it to do some work on and share ideas with you.
I will have ago today (fingers crossed that the rendering machine keeps churning)

Here is my first go - based on your colour idea (although I lightend the grey walls in some areas and added a textured brown wall behind the bed.
There is part of the art work gone missing in this view the silver 'weed' should make a frieze the entire length of that wall

For this variation I didn't go with your colours at all - including a different colour bed ... wanted to show the 'textural' effect of using one wood (walnut) - which you could do with your dark chocolate bed as the starting point too!
Putting a chest of drawers at the foot of the bed avoids the problem with wasted corners trying to get enough storage against all the walls.

Dear Ahynes87 and theadora,
thank you very much for all the measurements and explanations, My count of inches does not add up on the wall of the closet, that is 147.5 inches while the opposite wall with the window is 148 inches , so I have a go with the template I redone with the help of Theadora.
Hope you like it
I have got the hang of inches and feet with a lovely on line converter
Best of luck to everyone not used to the inches...

Love the blue color you chose so did not change it, 2 18 inch chests of drawers on either side of the closet will free up space for a desk or dressing table, hope you like it. :)

Hey everyone,
Thanks so much for trying to tackle my room and for the wonderful ideas that you have given me. It's been a real inspiration to see such amazing design ideas! I had to comment on everyone's design due to the lack of space here. I also apologize that I haven't gotten back sooner. I've been away from the computer the past couple of days and I've only been able to view the site from my smart phone. As for my room being so weird, all I can say is someone seriously screwed up on the math when they were building our house. I apologize about using inches -- that was my bad there. I should have converted it into meters/feet for easy use. Sorry about that! These design ideas are really, really great. It's given me a lot to think about and I'm always open to new suggestions. I think I may take a design element from everyone and add it to my room. When I do have my room finished, am I allowed to post a picture to show everyone? In any case, thanks again to everyone. I really appreciate the new ideas you have all given me :) -

Hi, you requested a view of the window side of the room, so here it is:

For Ahynes87_view 2 by TheadoraI didn't realize you had a flat screen t.v. so changed the design a bit. If your baseboard heater is located underneath your window I wouldn't put furniture in front of it and would probably use blinds instead of curtains.
I'd like to thank you for your kind comments and would love to see photos of the results of our combined efforts to help you create the "perfect" bedroom! :)

I used to collect different shapes of coffee mugs, and display them on the shelves in the living room. They are also beautiful idea home decors. I also like to buy many magazines, sometimes I put some of them into a square frames, which is also interesting. So, what kind of idea home decors do you like to collect?
