Two Templates For Open Plan Space
We are opening up the ground floor of our new house to give it a more open plan feel. We have two
slightly different floor plans to choose from but we're finding it a bit tricky to organise the space well.
Here are links to the two floorplans:

The space comprises an entrance hall, a study and a large area to include a kitchen, a dining area and a living area.
We are going to keep the wooden flooring...

...and I've put in a few items of furniture (or near matches) that we have at the moment. The only think we'd
definitely need to keep would be the large black sofa and probably the cooker. Ideally the kitchen would include some sort of island unit/breakfast barand the overall feel would be contemporary.
There's no budget as what we're looking for are general ideas on decor and how to use the space rather than specific items.
Really looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, here are some ideas for plan # 1, which I think is the better of the 2 floor plans. I put a family/t.v. area off the kitchen, hope you like it. Question: Is the electric fireplace (heater) movable or build in?

I prefer template 2 - there isn't the feel of creating a corridor around the outside of the stairwell to access the study.

Hey. I prefer the first plan. In one wing of the room - the kitchen and dining area, and another - living area and office. See how it looks.Report post

Hi, here's plan # 2. I made a storage wall (pantry) on the left in the kitchen (found the Meier kitchen to be a perfect fit so did not change it). I increased the office space to 14' x 6'6" since the storage wall only takes up about 2' in depth and left some wasted space in the kitchen. Hope you like it.

Wow, thanks for all these fabulous designs. It's really given us a lot to think about and some new ideas that we'd never have considered.
I'll try to reply directly to some of your posts when we've had a chance to digest all the different suggestions.
Thanks once again.
