glossy flooring - hot or not?
I've bought a flat in a new development. It's currently got carpets and with time (as I recover from the initial shock of buying in the first place) I want to get rid of them. Luckily Im allowed to put down wooden flooring!
I'm thinking of getting some nice oak, not laminate, flooring in the bedroom and living room, and in the hall get (vinyl? rubber?) flooring put down.
Has any of you got any experience with this? Do you like it? Is it easy to keep? In which rooms would you consider it? Any cons?
I've got a puppy so need to work for small paws and I generally like a clean modern look wit a twist/addition of old.
Thanks!

I should clarify, it should be white and not tiled. I'm not so bothered about it being very glossy - might even prefer just a nice sheen....

Hiya
If your optng for a vinyl or cushioned flooring, id steer clear of pale colours such as white, pastels etc.
My husband owns flooring shops and, despite his best efforts i insisted on a gorgeous white cushioned vinyl for the bathroom.
Its not an overly heavy duty room and more often than not we have no shoes on in there, but in no time at all it was marked beyond cleaning. It shows every speck of dirt and spoils so easy.
In the past ive had wood effect vinyl floor, which was very durable and they do some very realistic looking ones. With pets claws on it, id def opt for a decent quality thick one, or it will rip easy.
Somethin to think of with pets around is that glossy floor finishes will mark easily and show up too.
Any wood with a textured grainy finish wont show marks though, thats what we now opt for, easy clean ad hides a mutlitude of kids and pets sins :o)

Thanks Urshy, that's very good advise. I'm surprise to hear it is hard to keep as it is used commercially? Guess they go for darker colours in general...
If it is very hard to keep it won't work in my hall for sure...

I can vouch for it looking dirty in no time as well. In my old house i had a retro white and black checked vinyl flooring, and despite scrubbing it twice a week on my hands and knees, it still got marked and stained. When i moved, after moving the kitchen appliances out it looked awful. it was thick and good quality, but it looked all wrinkled and misshapen, and had dents in it from the furniture and stuff.
I do love glossy white flooring though.

Glossy flooring is very hot. There is a new trend that is gaining speed of interior concrete flooring and the glossier the better. Concrete finishes can finish a floor to the speicfications of a homeowner and make it as glossy (or not) as you want. They add a chmical that makes it non-slipery. Its all the rage now.

Glossy floor + puppy = bad combo, white even worse. Rubber with dimples might be good for traction but will trap dirt. Anything white will get ruined in days with a puppy.
