DIY and home improvement

Hi,I am looking to decorate my hall and stairs but am a bit stuck as to what would work best in a small hall?

 I have to use wallpaper as the walls are really uneven but I'm not sure what types of pattern are good in small spaces,should I be looking at ones that aren't too busy ?Or is it ok to use something  like a large floral pattern such as this http://www.grahambrown.com/uk/product/19971/Pippa?show=

I would really appreciate any advice as I an rapidly running out of wall space for anymore paper samples:)
